How Estimated Cost is Calculated
Estimated annual cost = the plan's all-in rate (from PowerToChoose.org / PUCT) applied to your estimated monthly usage, summed across the year using a Houston seasonal usage curve (summers run far higher than winters). Free Nights plans use a load-curve model: we solve the actual daytime rate from each plan's published average, then apply your realistic overnight share (~21% for Gulf Coast zone 2A). All figures are estimates, not quotes — your actual bill depends on weather, usage, and TDU charges.⚡ EV Charging Assumption
Free Nights savings assume you set your charger or vehicle to charge only during the free overnight window (most EVs and home chargers support a scheduled start time). We credit ~95% of EV charging to the free hours. If you charge during the day instead, those kWh bill at the full daytime rate and the savings shrink — often making a flat-rate plan the better choice.Usage Assumptions

Plans marked AVOID carry a minimum-usage fee, a bill credit, or tiered pricing (per PowerToChoose's own classification). They look cheapest at exactly 1,000 kWh but become some of the most expensive plans if your usage drifts below the threshold even one month. We never recommend them — the highlighted "Best" plan is always a clean, predictable rate.Data Sources

All annual cost figures are estimates only, based on modeled usage
profiles and rates from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT)
PowerToChoose.org database. Your actual electricity bill will vary based on your
real usage, billing cycle, applicable taxes, fees, and any plan terms not reflected
in the published average rate. Rates are retrieved nightly but may not reflect
intraday changes by retail electric providers (REPs).
